A cheer rang out as Doncaster poet David Harmer cut the ribbon to launch our new school library. It was a fine end to a brilliant day in school, made all the better by some eye-popping costumes as children and staff dressed up as their favourite book characters.
The day got off to a great start as David told us about himself and why he started writing. He then performed some of his poems for us and encouraged everybody to join in. "Mr Moore" - a poem about one of his old teachers - was one of our favourites because we had to make the sound effect of Mr Moore's shoes creaking down the corridor.
David spent the rest of the day running poetry workshops during which children worked together to write group poems. Parents were invited to come and listen to the results in our end-of-day assembly and it was great to see them joining is as well!
We all saw the funny side of David's poems!
Some of us brought our favourite books along...
