Over the past fortnight, 30 of our Y5 and Y6 children have received professional cycle training from the team at Pedal Ready. To achieve Level 1, the children had to show an understanding of bike maintenance and basic controls whilst on the move. Level 2 involved going out onto public roads to demonstrate knowledge of the highway code and more advanced bike skills at junctions and amongst traffic. Well done to all our cyclists - you were wheely great!
Ghosts, witches, vampires and monsters were all witnessed walking up the school path last night, much to the surprise of local residents. Luckily, they were all on their way to the fantastic PTA Halloween disco and the good people of Totley were untroubled.
The hall was transformed into a spooky supernatural nightclub as infants and juniors bopped the night away in some fabulous (if slightly scary) costumes, before feasting on a magnificent range of freaky food. The spider buns were particulary tasty!

Congratualations to Angel, proud winner of this awesome BMX. Lots of children entered the Bike It competition, in which they had to create a poster to persuade children to ride their bikes to school. There were lots of excellent designs, and several children were awarded runners up accessory packs, but Angel's was voted to be the best by Ruth and the Bike It Crew. Her design was so impressive that Ruth has taken it away to show to other schools as a good example.
Well done to all the children who came on their bikes to support Bike It Day!
Year 6 started their final year at Totley in fine style, with a 3-day residential at Thornbridge Outdoors Centre in Derbyshire. With the Autumn sun on their backs, the children got stuck in to a range of challenges such as orienteering, weaselling, cycling, climbing and den building.
The keys to success were teamwork, encouragement, determination and positive thinking. Year 6 displayed all of these qualities in bucketloads and, as a result, many people conquered personal fears and the whole group bonded together. It was fantastic that every single child in the class took part and contributed towards a trip to remember.
Thank you to all the members of staff who came out to lend a hand - we couldn't have done it without you!
There was great excitement at the start of term when children and staff saw the new building for the first time. There are some amazing transformations with the old cloakrooms now the general office, Mrs Lant's old office and the old main office becoming the new home of Mrs Lant and Mr Stewart. There are new electronic doors at the entrance and a glass lobby for visitors to wait in, not mentioning the lick of paint in most of the areas and the fantastic new Key Stage 2 toilets.
The classrooms have also been refurbished and help to make a lovely environment for the children to work in. A big thank you to everyone involved in all the building work. It's looks brilliant!

The most pleasing part of the new work was the installation of a staff shower room which seemed unlikely when the architects were designing the new school. It was such an unlikely event that Mrs Lant promised to 'eat her hat' if we got one. Well, persistence prevailed and much to the delight of the chidlren, Mrs Lant was presented with a hat to eat in assembly.
